Annual Trek for the Tree

This year the Thrailkill family trekked to Yule Forest (http://www.pickyourown.org/XMT.php?URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.aboutyule.com) in Stockbridge (which is not as far as you would think!).

I know you will all be sad as I thus far have no terrible tree story to share - no over sized trees that break the tree stand (really if you had seen Mikaela's face, you would have brought home that gargantuan too!), no left turns down dirt roads with no ends, no adventure.

The Yule Forest was all cheesy things promised by its website - hayrides with Christmas Music, large wooden cut outs of Characters of Christmas's past and present, petting zoos, and much more!

We started with posing by every character we loved - The Grinch was chosen by both!

Then, we grabbed our saw and large piece of plastic and headed out. With the drought this year, the trees were scarce. Mikaela found our tree - she knew the moment she saw it that it would come home with us (the little blue tag noting that it was in our price range helped!). Xander fell in love with every Charlie Brown tree they had. If they would have sold me the 1 foot tree for less than the price of a 6 foot one, we would have taken it home! Unfortunately $24 Charlie Brown trees are not in our budget.

The kids and I headed off on the hayride while Daddy supervised the tying of the tree to our mini van. With Christmas music playing, we bounced down the dirt road littered with wooden stand up characters. To name just a few, we spotted: Dora and Boots, Cinderella, Snow White AND all seven dwarfs, scooby doo, the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Frosty the Snowman, Santa, several super heroes and that was just the first section!

We met Daddy at the petting zoo where the hayride kindly dropped us off. We met an unfriendly Emu, a donkey who isn't making friends anytime soon, and the noisiest pig I have ever heard! Much fun was had by all - and sinks with soap were provided!

After all that adventure, we headed home with our sweet tree.
